Pyro-man gasifying pellet boiler

Kimmo Ahola, Sampo Tukiainen

Category: Construction Engineering, Energy
Description
Pyro-Man Oy has developed combustion technology for use in the heating of small premises. In this entirely new type of boiler the solid fuel, pellet or wood chips are gasified in a separate reactor. The generated gas is mixed with combustion air and led to the heating boiler’s firebox for combustion. The ash that is left over from the process falls into the ash chamber underneath the reactor, from where it can easily be removed. Ash removal can also be automated. The equipment should be maintained approximately every 3 to 8 months.
Field of Use
Heating systems for detached houses and other small premises. Particularly suitable for renovation sites where the oil heating system is replaced by pellet heating.
Advantages
  • The investment cost for the pellet burner is low. The oil burner can be directly substituted by the pellet burner, and there is no need for a new boiler.

  • The maintenance interval is longer than in a traditional pellet burner, at most approximately 6 months.

  • The fuel feed-in and efficiency of the burner are adaptive, and there is no need for adjustments when operating conditions or fuel grade change.

  • The measured CO and HC emissions are low.

Stage of Development
The patenting process has begun in Finland. Possibility for an international patent. The combustion technology has been used in Pyro-Man 15 Retrofit burners, more than 10 of which have been sold. A separate 100-kilowatt burner and a 150-kilowatt hot water generator have also been built, and they are currently being tested.
Business Proposal
A co-operation partner is being sought for the licensing or to otherwise make commercial use of the invention.
